Yoga and Rhymes

As a primary teacher and mum, nursery rhymes are something that are sung all the time! I love the way the children’s faces light up when you burst into song and adding actions in makes it even more fun!

There are so many benefits to singing and learning together but most of all, I feel, is the joy that comes from it! It doesn’t matter if you can “sing” or not, everyone can do it and everyone can have fun! Whilst we’re singing along we are boosting vocabulary and language development, developing social skills and bonding, and depending on the song we might even be teaching children maths- all from a simple little song! Think of all the nursery rhymes you were taught as a child and how much of that links to learning!

One of the favourites in our house is ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and we love doing this as a yoga flow! You can sing at the same time if you want, or sing the song and then do the yoga flow, but we are getting our bodies moving, making ourselves happier by increasing our endorphins and doing it together, laughing and having fun!

Why not give it a go…?!

Incy Wincy Spider Yoga Flow

We are going to use some of our Magick Yoga Cards and change what they are, just for our song today. You will need:

Spider (Crab Pose)

Rain (Tickle Toes)

Sun (Sun Pose)

Incy Wincy Spider, climbed up the water spout (Crab)

Down came the rain and washed the spider out (Tickle Toes)

Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain (Sun)

And Incy Wincy Spider climbed up the spout again (Crab)

Enjoy! x
