Kindness is Contagious!
When I heard the words “lockdown”, my heart filled with dread, the uncertainty and anxiety just rocketed. Having been in my home, on my own for the past 9 weeks, I have certainly had many challenges to overcome, just like us all.
However, what I have noticed, is that kindness has totally shown up in every aspect of my life but also all around us globally.
I don’t know about you but I have seen in the media and on social media some incredible acts of kindness, a sense of community and unity and many standing together in support and hope! This brings so much comfort in a time where there is so much going on and people not knowing what is next.
For me personally, it has not been big gestures that have helped and encouraged me, but the smallest acts of kindness that perhaps before, we didn’t have the time to do or we made excuses for. My neighbours have got me milk from the shop and left it on the doorstep, as they knew I was working full time and really worried about going at a “busy” time, text messages from family and friends just checking in; even people I haven’t heard from in ages! It’s been a time to connect, re-connect, build bridges, create new friendships – that conversation over the fences with the distant neighbours, the little gifts left on the doorsteps for the postmen, the cakes bought and made for the local village shop staff to say thank you – the heart felt things that we all underestimate the true power of!
What I have noticed most, is that the more acts of kindness that have been occurring, the more acts of kindness have increased, we are caring more for one another, taking the time and making the effort to appreciate the simplest of things but most of all, that kindness and love are contagious!
One of my favourite parts of Mini Me Yoga is when we all stop for a moment and sit still, thinking about the love for ourselves, for others around us and then the wider community, we make our special Om sound to convey this love and kindness and although those far away may not be able to hear us, the intention we are setting and sending out, fills our hearts with pure joy! We are not only looking after ourselves but others too! It may not be a physical object of kindness but it’s a kind thought, a kind word, something that may cost nothing, but mean everything! It’s the simplest of things, but yet, a very powerful and humbling one that only takes a moment and is totally contagious!
