This time of year, can be rather hectic, seeing our children’s tiredness, emotions and excitement levels increasing to new heights. It is sometimes difficult to know how we can help them become grounded again. Kids yoga and mindfulness through Mini Me Yoga is a programme that has been developed by Kate Bartram-Brown and helps you do just that! If you haven’t heard about it yet, have a peak. Before we manage to obtain the festive jolly status, we tend to find ourselves jumping through hoops, rushing here there and everywhere with lists upon lists of things to do. Children/work parties, Nativities, Pantomimes, Carol services and so on – you get the idea? At some point the obligatory winter bugs, coughs and colds will hit, putting a spanner in the momentum, which screeches you to an abrupt halt for a few days whilst you or your loved ones recover enough to go back to school or work, allowing you to step back on to the festive rollercoaster.

Sometimes, we just need to stop…breathe…and savour the moment.

Have you managed to do that lately?

As a family of 4, with the rest of our relatives living far away and abroad, we find ourselves dashing around at high speed, trying to fit everything in. Over the years, we have found that to take the time to breathe and enjoy the moment is the one thing that keeps our energy levels up. To help us along the way to obtaining full jolly status, we have a few tricks that I would love to share with you.

Find something that you can all do together, that grounds you and makes you cherish the time you spend together. For us, Mini Me Yoga is just that – we add a new pose every day in the month of December until we have created our ‘Christmas Yoga flow’. The children love spending time doing this and are full of delight teaching Daddy and myself on how to do the poses their way. Like this lion pose:

I also have a love for essential oils and use these in multiple ways. One of the easiest ways that can benefit the whole family is by diffusing. This month, I have been diffusing peppermint and ginger. They help your breathing and boost immunity. I also add a blend of wild orange, clove, cinnamon cassia, douglas, nutmeg, and vanilla, which is just how you think Christmas should smell.

Christmas is a time for family and loved ones. It is also important to remember those who are feeling sad and lonely. Listening and helping others is such a simple gift that we can give.

People should never feel alone or feel that no one is listening, because someone always is. So, a very Merry Christmas to all. I hope you all manage to relax, have fun as well as being there for others who may need that little bit extra love at this time of year.

Meet Our Mini Me Yoga Ambassador and this week’s guest blogger- Lyndsay van der Starre

With over 10 years in the corporate world, living a very fast pace of life! (I even met my husband on a KLM flight), I always turned to yoga and mindfulness as a way of re-energising and grounding myself. In 2009, our son was born and at that moment I realised that life was worth so much more than a fast-paced career. From that point, I landed my most important career to date – I became a mum. Then in 2011 our daughter was born and life changed again in the most beautiful way. When I was introduced to Kate Bartram-Brown, I knew that Mini Me Yoga was something that would play a crucial part in my life moving forward. My children love the programme and I love meeting and coaching the wonderful people who attend my workshops here in Scotland.
